The UK animation industry entails a workforce that expands
across many of the creative media sectors. There is plenty of animated content
on television, in feature films, commercials, websites and computer/video
games. The animation industry is cross media. Animation is quite small but it
is increasing in success and popularity.
There are four main parts in the animation sector, these
are:
·
2D drawn or traditional
·
2D computer generated
·
Stop frame
·
3D computer generated
Many companies only specialise in
one of the above but some companies specialise in all four, but this is very
rare. There is large range of freelance, contract and permanent jobs in animation. These are mainly found at small production companies.
Producing an animation in this industry is time consuming and expensive in costs, it can take up to two or more years to create just a 30 minutes animation. This means that the work team will have to be able to work with each other and use good communication skills between each other.
The budget for some animation features are up to $60 million but if the feature is a success and the sales of the product and its merchandise are as well then this can usually reimburse for the initial investment into the feature.
There are around 4,700 people who work in the animation industry.
